Football aka Soccer rules the world of sports. It's governed by FIFA and Football Referees are its immediate onsite representatives to control an ongoing game of soccer. They impose the authority of FIFA by implementing the laws of the game. Once the starting whistle has been blown and a match is in progress, they are the masters of all they survey and no one, not even the highest official in the land, may interfere with a single decision they make. They stand exposed in the center of the arena and make instantaneous, unalterable judgments on every second of game play. Sometimes they bear the brunt of angry fan’s abuse too. This makes the job of the referees very stressful. But unfortunately these officials are the least talked about stakeholders of the most talked sport of the planet. This book is a try to peek into the lives of football officials to get an idea of why someone becomes a referee and what their mental make up and socio-economic status are. Vijay Bahadur Singh Bisht, a football enthusiast, is presently employed as an Associate Professor of Physical Education in Rajendra Prasad Degree College Meerganj, Bareilly. Besides serving as a teacher he is also involved in nurturing and guiding football talent and runs a football club as well at local level.
